Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a web server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encrypted, a third party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for instance, the choices are limited since you won't have root access to the hosting server, so you could only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. They are all actions that are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

SSH access can be permitted with a click via the Hepsia Control Panel if the web hosting you have chosen provides this feature as standard. If not, you can include it through the Add Services/Upgrades section of your CP and enable it at once. You will find all the info that you need in the SSH section of the Control Panel - the host, the port number and the username that you must use, as well as thorough Help articles where we've listed each of the commands you can use within the account and examples of the syntax you have to use. The SSH password could be changed from the same section at any time with a couple of mouse clicks. Provided that SSH access is enabled, you will also be able to connect securely through an FTP client too. With an SFTP connection, each of the files that you upload will go through an encrypted connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to obtain SSH access to it with a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you'll be able to add it without difficulty using the Upgrades menu. After you go to the SSH section, you shall find the details that you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter may be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also essential if you want to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we provide you with. A comprehensive list of the commands which you can perform will give you a better idea of what tasks you may perform in your account and each one is accompanied by several examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server packages include SSH access by default, so you will not need to add any upgrades or enable anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login info, you'll be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've picked during the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there are no restrictions with regards to the commands which you can run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage more or less everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you are able to work with your files, databases and any applications you install in a fast and safe way.
