Every PC or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, together with any apps that are installed on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, each and every application runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This is valid for both standard website scripts and server-side software such as a media server. In case a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so that you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

In case you pick one of our VPS server packages, you'll have 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They're all Linux distributions and we offer them rather than offering just a single OS, since the applications that you may want to run on the server may have specific requirements regarding the software environment. Each one of the three has certain pros in terms of the available packages that you could later on install, but what is common between them is the fact that they're really secure and reliable and have huge communities that support them. The internet hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your Operating System choice, so as to provide you with more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need another one later, our tech support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a couple of minutes. We also offer the option to maintain the Operating System on your server up-to-date on a weekly basis.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on your server as different apps may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and risk-free hosting service. Based on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also upgrade the OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
